This is a big week for  OL Luke Kandra (2020) from Cincinnati Elder High School. Known for his offensive line play for Elder, Luke is also a strong shot put/discus thrower on the track team.

This weekend he will be competing in both the shot put and discus at the OHSAA State Track Championships. He comes in with a put of 55’11” in the shot and a discus throw of 155’11. Good possibility of placing in both events. I saw him throw the discus at the Regionals at Wayne HS. Good balance and powerful.

Although he did not get as much playing time during the regular basketball season, Luke played well in the post season last winter. He is a power force inside with a good touch around the rim.

Although Luke plays three sports in the strong athletics program at Cincinnati Elder High School, football will be his ticket to getting a free education.

Jakob James (2020) is another really powerful offensive lineman at Elder HS. He has gotten stronger and added good weight. Really like his toughness. Jakob has committed to playing  football for Ohio State.

Luke runs well and has good initial quickness. He can bend his knees, but plays too high at times. Can pull and lead. Like his athleticism. Needs to play more under control at times,  but he is aggressive.

The classroom is no stranger to Luke. He carries a 3.7 GPA and scored a 21 on the ACT. Undecided about future academic studies.

Luke feels his strength is in run blocking where he can overpower defenders and he does that. He feels that his pass blocking is one area he in which he has to improve. Feels that he guilty of leaning too much. Correctable.

His advice to an incoming freshman. “Do the best that you can, but have fun. Be smart and work hard.” Don’t do anything half way.”

Much of the credit for his drive and work ethic goes to his high school coaches. They have helped him see the potential that he has and have worked him really hard to use it.” I have met his parents and see the influence that they are for him.

For him, he is most annoyed at players who have potential, but slack and do not use it. Frustrating for him.

Advice to football recruits – “Enjoy every minute in the process. Work hard to get better. Never let it get to be old stuff.”

Indiana and Louisville have offered and are showing him a lot of attention. Other offers are Cincinnati, BC, Purdue, Toledo, and BGSU among other MAC schools.

Luke feels that last summer, he went to too many football camps. He has cut back this summer, but will be attending one of the Ohio State camps in June.

Really like his potential to be a very high OL prospect this fall. Big, athletic and can move his feet. Jakob and Luke are two of the top offensive line prospects in the 2020 Class.
