Andre Gordon – Basketball/Football Recruit

Finally, was able to spend to spend a few minutes with Sidney High School’s junior quarterback Andre Gordon last night. Followed that up with watching  a half of basketball.

Actually first heard about Andre, when he was rated as one of the better freshman hoop players in his freshman class. He played football, as well. For two years, I missed seeing him play him due to injuries. Last fall, I saw a healthy Andre Gordon.

Listed 6’2 and guessin that is pretty close, he is long. As most high school players, he will have to get bigger/stronger. But I really like his quickness and ability to change direction. Good burst, but he will need to improve top end speed.

Some BCS schools, like Pitt, have offered as an athlete. Some MAC level schools are recruiting him as a quarterback. Cincinnati, recently offered  him, but I am not sure as to what position. FWIM, I like him at quarterback. More of a runner, but passing skills are improving. As I said earlier, injuries have been his worst defender.

From the spread, I like his ability to run the read option. Good ball fakes. Freezes linebackers. Ability to change direction. Quick feet. Avoids defenders. Breaks tackles. Needs to improve 5th gear, but gains separation.

Throws on the run. Finds the open receiver. Sees the field, even under pressure. When he gets his feet set, he gets good velocity on his passes. Will have to improve core muscles, to improve his ball velocity.

Some schools are recruiting him as an athlete, either as wide receiver or defensive back. Get faster. Some of the mid-major schools will give him a shot at QB. Probably the correct course, now. Either way, he just makes plays with his feet or his arm.

Like his leadership skills. Last night was not a good not for Sidney basketball. Centerville was good and shots were not falling. Andre struggled, as well, but he kept his composure. Like that in a quarterback.

Andre has some college basketball coaches following his progress, as well. He could go either basketball or football. This summer college football camp success will help determine the sport.

Good to finally meet Andre. No injuries. A bad night, but no injuries. Really like his HUDL hi-lites video and those are as a quarterback.
