First watched Richfield Revere offensive lineman Ben Christman at John Carroll’s football camp last summer. Listed at 6’5-285, I could not miss him. Just going into his sophomore year at Revere made him more impressive.

Last Friday, I watched him play some junior varsity basketball against Barberton. Biggest player on the court. Physically, he looks good, but needs to work on his basketball skills. But I am looking at a potential highly rated offensive lineman who has offers already from Toledo, Cincinnati, and Pitt. Not worried about his basketball.

On the football field, he is powerful. Good initial burst off the ball. Good lateral range, but will get even better. Needs to be more consistent run blocker, but he does a good job of sustaining a block. Good drive blocker, but needs to improve his knee bending. Sets his feet in pass protection. Can mirror pass rusher. Shows some bend. Like his aggressiveness and overall toughness.

Ben has time, only being a 10th grader, to improve his athleticism. Needs to maintain weight at 285. Needs to improve balance and ability to re-direct. He has the measurements for sure. Needs to continue to get stronger and quicker.

Also a three sport athlete. Besides football and basketball, he puts the shot and throws discus in spring. As a 9th grader, he hit 42 feet, which shows power and explosion. Also maintains a 3.0 GPA.

With quality offers as a 1oth grader, he is motivated to keep getting better and better to make his team more successful. Team is important. Also, he dreams of getting a free education with his football talents.

Ben Christman is ahead of the game with regards to size, to the ability to move, to power, and to confidence. As he continues to get better, he will be a high profile recruit on the national level.

Looking forward to watching Brian this fall. One of MSR’s top overall prospects in the Ohio 2021 Class.
