Watched the Olentangy versus Olentangy Liberty football game last Thursday night, and I made a point to wish senior Ed Warinner from Liberty High School the very best for the rest of the year. Also, told him how much I appreciated him.
Ed plays linebacker for Liberty. Athleticism to play either outside or inside. My guess as he gets bigger/stronger, he will be an inside guy on the next level. The next level being Michigan State.
I am thinking that I saw Ed play a little as a freshman, but I know that I saw him his sophomore and junior years. Last year, he suffered a knee injury and then injured his opposite knee last spring. Healthy now, Ed seems to be gaining confidence in his knees and played much like that last Thursday.
He plays smart and reads and reacts to the linemen. Runs down hill well. Gets through traffic. Finishes plays. Like his closing speed. Needs to improve change of direction and continue to get bigger/stronger/faster.
Guessin 6’1-220, but has the frame to add weight. Probably a true MIKE, but could slide out and play WILL. Ed understands what it takes to play college football.
Ed’s dad coached at Ohio State and is the current offensive line coach at Minnesota. Committing to Michigan State was a good thing, because I consider Mark Dantonio one of the best defensive talent evaluators. And, one of the best in developing players.
Actually, I have spoken to Ed just a few times. To the point guy and not really into the recruiting process. But I like him. I respect him for all that he is going through his senior year. Some concern about his knees. Some concern about dad living in Minnesota. Ed and his mom stayed back in Columbus to finish his football career at Olentangy Liberty High School.
I wish him the best and he is appreciated.
