Jesse Prewitt III 2019 WR to Watch

Last fall, I was evaluating players in a game between Columbus Northland and Mansfield Senior. I was there to see some other prospects, when number 6 jumped out at me. Northland had some other good prospects, but Jesse surprised me.

Jesse Prewitt III was solid both as a wide receiver and defensive back. Not great, but active and made some plays on both sides of the ball. Then boom! Jesse broke his wrist and missed the next 7 games of the season.

Ran into him at a track meet at Gahanna this past spring. Said the wrist was healed. For the season, he ran on both the 4X100 and 4X200 relays. Cleared 6’2 and long jumped 21’5. Explosion, but needs to get bigger/stronger/faster. Than should continue to get better.

Jesse worked out at the Ohio State Camp this past Friday. With the huge storm delays, I could not get a really good feel for him. Thought he caught the ball well. Showed a little burst after the catch. Need to see more.

On his HUDL hi-lites, he looked solid. Of course, missing 7 games hurts stats and timing. But he came back strong. Needs to get more explosive. Needs to work on fundamentals both sides of the ball. Good hands. Will have to improve route running.

He carries a 3.2GPA and scored an 18 on the ACT. Like to see him keep working hard on the academics side on the recruiting process. An interesting side of Jesse – a couple of other players and Jesse work with the girls basketball team in the winter to give them more competition.

I do not know Jesse well, but did talk with him some at the camp and, also, over the phone. Liked what I saw in the game against Mansfield last fall. But he needs to get bigger/stronger/faster. Like his athleticism, but so much depends on getting BSF.

Like his attitude and competitiveness, but he needs to get faster. Needs to work on release, getting in and out of cuts, and stronger hands.

Jesse has an offer from Toledo. Cincinnati is keeping him warm. Coming up are camp visits to Marshall and Eastern Michigan, which gives him more exposure.

Jesse is one of those prospects who is getting a late start because of an injury most of last season. But he needs to stay focused. I liked him last fall, but he needs to continue to get better. Even with an offer from Toledo, he needs to get better.
