Lorain HS – Returns Some Skill Prospects

Really enjoyed watching the Amherst – Lorain football scrimmage yesterday at Lorain. Good, hard hitting scrimmage.

First, talking with Lorain HS head coach Dave McFarland is always fun. First met Dave back in his Elyria Catholic days, many football seasons ago. Still has that same enthusiasm that he had years ago. His teams are always well-coached and are well disciplined. Fun to watch.

This year four juniors provide an excellent nucleus. All are skilled players. Three started last year as 10th graders.

Daylin Dower

First watched RB/CB Daylin Dower (2020) run  the basketball court as a freshman playing junior varsity. Really liked his quickness. Guessin 6’0-175 pounds, but has an excellent burst. Fast. Makes defenders miss as a RB. Really like his quickness. Last year he rushed for 1480 yards and 18 TD’s.

Daylin will have to get much bigger/stronger over the off season to be a college running back. To me, he is a good corner prospect. Still needs to get bigger/stronger, but he has excellent quickness. Can turn his hips. Tough on run support. Best strength – CB mentality. Toughness and confidence on the edge.

SS  Savon Chavis (2020) was injured some last year, but had a solid year. Will play some RB, as well as SS. Came off

Savon Chavis

the edge well. Finishes. Physical player who will go inside to make tackles. Probably a strong safety on the next level. Guessin 5’11-200. Will also play some running back, but strength is defense. Needs to improve hips and change of direction.

Strong. Guessin 5’9-165, but WR/DB Tyshawn Lighty is a tough hard-nosed competitor. Excellent quickness with a good burst and top end speed. Scored 11 TD’s last year. Really like his big play capability on offense. Also plays FS. Could be a slot receiver on the next level.

Tyshawn Lighty

Tyshawn is really athletic. Explosive. On one catch yesterday, he went high the  air and caught the ball in stride.

QB Jordan Jackson is raw and a work in progress. Thought that he got better as the scrimmage went on. Guessin 6’3-175 and long. Once he gets comfortable and gets his feet set, he should be fine. Liked his patience in the pocket. Also liked his pocket awareness. Should be a very good quarterback by season’s end.

Tyshawn, Savon, and Daylin are three really quick skilled guys. Athletic. Fast. All three have to continue to get bigger/faster/stronger, but are D1 potential prospects.

Senior Zach Evans gives them experience at receiver and defensive end. Guessin 6’3-210, but needs to add weight and strength. Like his toughness and athleticism.

Lorain has some talented juniors.
