Junior Paris Johnson, the 6’7-280 left tackle from Cincinnati St Xavier High School, is simply a “freak” and is the MSR top recruit in the Ohio Class of 2020. Watched him against Cleveland St Ignatius, last Saturday.
Last year the first time I watched St X, he did not play. He was on the sophomore team. That was early in the season.
Of course, he has to keep working on technique. Of course, he has to add strength. Of course, he has to add good weight. O course! But he has so much potential!
Paris can bend and play pad under pad. Excellent arm extension. When he makes contact with defender, he never lets up. Keeps his feet moving. Controls the defender.
Like his pass blocking technique. Good initial drop step and quickness. Good extension. Moves his feet. Mirrors the defender.
Watched him pull and lead block. Quickness to get up and down the LOS. Can turn hips. Blocks on 2nd and 3rd level. Always looking for defenders to block, after initial block. Aggressive and plays with a motor.
Needs to keep getting bigger/stronger. Needs to improve overall agility. Excellent frame to add weight. Only a junior with plenty of time to improve. AND will.
Actually Paris was a defensive end his first year at St X. Grew 5 inches and added 100 pounds since his arrival. Last year was his first on the offensive line.
A no-nonsense guy. Really like his toughness and aggressiveness. He has a quiet confidence.
Paris has verbally committed to Ohio State. For him – the the most important thing is being with his team, practicing with them, and spending time with them.
I read his comment that really says it all about Paris Johnson. “I still feel like I’m just scratching the surface and that’s very exciting to know I have this year and next to work and be with my teammates before I make the transition to Ohio State.”
