Writing about a freshman has always been “walking on thin ice” with me. Especially, years ago, but college coaches have told that if he is good enough, “go for it.” Findlay High School, Luke Montgomery, has tremendous potential to be a top college prospect in his class of 2023 and is good enough.
Luke played defensive end for Findlay this past season. Next year, he will also play some tight end, along with DE. My guess is that he may play those positions his high school career. Now measuring 6’5-255, Luke will be a left tackle in college. Maybe a center. But, he will be playing at a Power Five school.
A little history about him. The last two years he has started on LeBron James AAU team out of Akron. Teammates with with LeBron’s son. That ride will end, because LeBron is on the west coast. During the summer in travel baseball, he played all over the country. A first baseman and pitcher. As you can see, Luke has some athleticism at 6’5-255.
Bloodlines. I remember seeing his grandpa, Bob Montgomery, play on the offensive line at Findlay College back in 1964. A knee injury cut short his career. I evaluated his dad, Mike, who played at Miami. Luke his bigger than both.
Watching some of his Hudl hi-lites, he can bend and play pad under pad. Neutralizes blockers. Finds the football. Gets separation from the blocker. Also finishes plays. Carries his weight well. More comments when I post his Hudl hi-lites on my website.
Tremendous potential. I am not a big AAU basketball pusher. But for Luke, he should continue playing. Keep the weight under 285, always. Have fun at TE, but OL is his home in college. A Power Five college!
