Really enjoyed talking with Michael Drennen II this week. Actually I have known him for two years through my camps and combines. Talked with him a little at that time, but I am getting to know him.
Michael plays a slot receiver for Dublin Coffman HS. This year he will also play some running back position. Now measures 5’11-190. Really liked his initial quickness and explosiveness in the bag drills. Runs low to the ground. Strong hips.
Speed and toughness are his two strongest qualities. Played slot back his freshman year, mostly to get on the field. Caught the ball well. Good upfield route runner. Fast. Also like his toughness with the ball in his hands.
Going into his sophomore year, he cracked his ankle one week before the first game. Missed the next seven games. Got back on the field game eight. Had a solid finish to the season.
Ran track. Runs anchor on both the 4×100 and the 4x2oo.
Michael’s game speed is excellent. Has both the initial burst and 5th gear. Gets separation as a receiver. As said earlier, he will run the ball some this fall. Actually, I could see him playing DB, but his big play ability requires the football in his hands.
Also does well in the classroom. Qualifier with a 3.6 GPA and 24 ACT score.
Michael really lets his performance do his talking. Plays with intensity. More quiet than loud. Just plays the game. The more I see him and the more I talk with him, the more I like him. Class act. An even better class act with a football in his hands.
