Yesterday, I was able to spend a few minutes with St Xavier offensive tackle, Paris Johnson. He went on to go through a workout at Mason, Ohio’s Wall to Wall sports center. Actually, the second time that I have watched him workout. Must say that I am more impressed each time I see him.
“Always wanting to get better.” His answer when I asked him why do a college workout, and already have committed to Ohio State. No “me-me” guy just going through the motions. At 6’7-285 pounds, watching him work is easy. Can’t miss him.
Really like his athleticism. Excellent feet. Good initial foot quickness. Good knee bender. Good lateral movement. Sets up well on pass pro. Maintains block. Like his offensive line awareness. Really like his flexibility body control for a left tackle. Long and slender. Blocks well on 2nd level. Feet are so good.
Needs to get bigger/stronger. Like most OL guys, he needs to be able to re-direct. As I told him before, I like his aggressiveness, but really want his to bite. Have not seen that yet, but it will there.
Because of the football recruiting media and all of the “hype,” Paris has really blown up and considered one of the top recruits in the country. Needs some time to develop. Played defensive end at 6’3-205 as a 9th grader. Of course, has added inches and weight since. Did not start on varsity until half way thru his sophomore year. But he has been getting bigger and bigger and better and better.
Really enjoyed chatting with him. Quiet and more quiet. Excellent student. Talked about – 10 years from now, he will have a Foundation to help kids. Prepared for life after college already.
Paris has committed to Ohio State. An obvious very good left tackle prospect. Tremendous athletic skills. Really good feet. Passes the eyeball test. He made big strides since his freshman year. The sky is the limit. Like his quiet confidence. I hope that O-State has to “take some of the bite out of the dog..”
I wish Paris Johnson the very best with his “sky is the limit” abilities.
