QB Isaiah Murphy – Leads the Way at Walnut Ridge

Just wanted to wish Walnut Ridge quarterback Isaiah Murphy the very best in this Friday’s playoff game against Massillon Washington. Like so many players over the years, I was able to watch him develop as a QB.

Isaiah measures 6’4-250. Strong arm. Accurate. Finds the open receiver. Can make every throw. Definitely, gets the ball downfield. Like his decision making. Still developing as a college potential QB.

The first time I saw him was his sophomore summer at the Dublin Coffman 7on7 competition. Technique was not good. Feet were all over the place. But he was tall and listen to some corrections that I gave him.

I had wanted to get back and work with him some, but could never work it out.  Plus, I am really uncomfortable working with high school players. Never do I want to go against the head coach.

Anyway, I had a chance to work with Isaiah this past summer. The biggest coaching point was that he had to keep his feet underneath him when he set up. He over stride. Isaiah made that correction that day.

This year Walnut Ridge is 9-1. Last year, they were 9-1. Last year they made the Playoffs for the first time in 16 years.

For the season, he has passed for 1766 yards and 28 touchdowns. He only has one interception. With a 68.9 completion record.

Right now, Isaiah needs to continue to improve, but Holy Cross has shown some attention. Saginaw Valley and Ashland have also shown a lot interest.

A good game against powerful, undefeated Massillon Washington would really him in the football recruiting process.

Am really glad that I could help him with QB skills. I wish him the very best this Friday.
