The OHSFCA Under Armour Football Clinic – Feb 8,9,10

Thursday afternoon I will be leaving for the annual OHSFCA Under Armour Football Clinic at the Hilton in Columbus Ohio. A Thursday evening until Saturday afternoon of nothing but learning to be a better football coach.

The Clinic was the brainchild of Jerry Cooke and Mike Mauk (now coaching in Missouri) back in 1996. They were told by a few of the Regional Directors at the time, that it would never succeed. Never work! 22 years later it has outgrown the Hilton, but since the Hilton is the best location, it stays.

College coaches from across the Midwest are featured speakers. Many colleges are represented by assistant coaches who speak on their areas of coaching. All of the Ohio High School football champions and runners-up head coaches speak, as well. Each of the seven divisions is represented.

In the Jim Tressel years at O-State, he gave much of his time to bring more and more class and character to the Clinic. He took time to talk to the high school coaches as they stood in the lobby. He was also an important part of the banquet on Friday night. Urban Meyer opens the Clinic on Friday morning.

This year the following college head coaches are speaking either Thursday night, Friday morning, or Saturday morning.

  1. Jeff Brohm – Purdue
  2. Pat Narduzzi – Pitt
  3. Chris Ash – Rutgers
  4. Dana Holgorson – West Virginia
  5. Matt Campbell – Iowa State
  6. Sean Lewis – Kent State
  7. Luke Fickell – Cincinnati

Assistant college coaches

  1. Mike Zordich – Michigan
  2. Kevin Wilson – Ohio State
  3. Larry Johnson – Ohio State
  4. Dean Pees – NFL
  5. Mike Tressel – Michigan State
  6. Others represented – Northwestern, BGSU, Miami, Toledo, Findlay, Ashland

The older I get the longer the days get the Clinic. Almost like Christmas for me. Connect with both college and high school coaches.

I will miss veteran coach Wally Hood who passed last spring.

Should be a fun time. I forget to mention that there will be 1,900 coaches either “hanging out,” or listening to the speakers, or some conduct their own coaching staff meetings during the Clinic. Also, this clinic is the biggest high school clinic in the country.

Yea Ohio high school football  !!!!!!
