Todd Bumphis, FS/WR from Toledo St Francis High School very well may be one of the most polite football players I have met for sometime. Most of the football recruits whom I chat with are good kids, but Todd goes beyond that.
First talked with him at a University of Toledo football practice. Friday night he walked over to say hello. Of course, he is only a sophomore. Maybe that was it, but I kind of doubt it.
Todd happens to a fast track guy as well. Ran the 200 in 22.2. With all of the bad weather this spring, I thought that was good. Also ran the first leg on the 4/100. Think that the time was 43.2. Again – a good time for this early.
Last year he missed the first five games of the season due to the OHSAA transfer rule. For the last five games – 8 receptions for 142 yards. Averaged 17 yards a catch. Defensively, he made 35 tackles and one pick. Works at free safety. On the next level he might be able to move out to corner. Excellent range.
With only playing five games, he was thought well enough to make honorable mention All=TRAC. As most football fans in Northwest Ohio realize – the TRAC is very good conference.
Guessin 5’11-170, but but he is put together. Carries a 2.5 in the classroom. Works as hard in the library, as he does on the football field.
On HUDL Hi-lites, I like his overall speed. Back pedals and recovers well. Good open field tackler. Good hips. Only a 10th grader, he will get bigger/stronger/faster. Works hard in the weight room. All of his skills will get better, because of his work ethic.
Todd has already impressed some college coaches with his agility/speed and his desire to compete. As he gets to some football camps this summer, his stock will rise. Cincinnati is already showing him some love.
Definitely, one of MSR’s top DB’s in the Class of 2020. Cannot wait to see Todd Bumphis this summer.
