Because of a little different John Carroll camp set-up I did not see Berea Midpark HS QB Trevor Bycznski throw as much as I would have liked last night, but saw enough to be impressed. Last fall, I was impressed, as well.
At 6’5-230 Trevor does not look that heavy. Strong core muscles. Thought last night that he ran well enough. Thought he had solid footwork in the QB quickness drills. Also liked his toughness and competitiveness in the early running phase of the camp.
Trevor is not going to run a 4.5 or run the read option. But he can escape the pocket and run well enough to keep defenses honest. They will need to be aware of his mobility. Sets his feet before he releases the ball.
Really like the way he releases the ball. It gets out quickly and smoothly. Liked his accuracy, both medium and long. Of course, I have always liked his arm strength. Last year, I saw him throw the 17 yard out from the far hash. The ball gets out and gets to the receiver quickly.
I had never made the chance to speak with Trevor until last night. Really enjoyed the chat. Somewhat quiet and he told me that he is not a “yeller’ on the field. But I would guess that when he does talk, everybody listens. Watched him last night and he can be a leader, for real.
Carries a 3.7 in the classroom. Scored a 21 on the ACT. Early plans are to major in some area of sports management. Academics in good shape.
I really like his QB skills. Good feet. Strong arm. Sees the field. Finds the 2nd receiver. Runs well. Good pocket awareness. Can throw on the move. Handles pocket pressure. Really a pocket passer.
Last year he threw for just over 3,000 yards and 26 touchdowns. I believe he had 5 picks. Averaged over 40 points a game. All of this for a team whose record was 4-6. Actually, some recruiters seem to be concerned about the 4-6 won loss record. Silly recruiters.
His dad is the offensive coordinator for Berea Midpark. I joked with him about that. Trevor is good with it and communicates well with his dad.
Trevor has offers from Bowling Green and Buffalo. Believe that he has one from North Dakota State (1st on their board). A couple of Big Ten schools wanting to see more.
Right now, today – I believe Trevor is under rated by D1 college coaches. Although I do not do MSR final preseason ratings until after the camp season, he is one of the top three QB’s in the MSR Ohio Class of 2019.
I get it (a little bit) with the Power Five programs, I am surprised with some of the mid major D1 schools.
Trevor is being patient with recruiting process. He continues to go about his business. He has some big camps coming up in June. Really believe that he will be fine. If he could land where he would like to QB, he would be happy.
Trevor Bycznski has a gun, is accurate, and leads. Plus he is 6’5-230. Guessin he will be fine.
