An old football coaching friend reached out to me last month about a junior that he really liked and asked if I could help him get noticed. The Norton football program has had its ups and downs. Of course, I watched his HUDL hi-lites video. If he gets bigger/stronger, he will be recruited.
Tyler Scott, guessin 5’11-165, has speed and quickness. Like his burst. Like his ability to make defenders miss. Good hands. From his FS position, he closes well. Reads and reacts to the ball. Speed to get sideline to sideline.
I wondered how tough-tough he was, until I read that he carried to ball 45 times against powerhouse Barberton. The first time that he ever played tailback. Obviously tough and durable. For the season he had 1512 rushing yards on 243 carries. Also had 11 catches for 165 yards. Impressive – 3 KO touchdowns of 91, 93, and 99.
Tyler was one of the major factors that Norton shared the conference championship with Woodridge and Ravenna. Also, Norton beat a sound Coventry football program.
I spoke with him today and am impressed. Carries a 3.3 GPA in the classroom. Will take the ACT in February. American History is his favorite subject. Eventually would like to be a strength trainer.
Really liked his motor and burst on the basketball court. Good quickness on defense. Runs the court well. Like some of the recent football players who I have watched play basketball, Tyler plays within himself. Team basketball player. Not a me-me guy.
This spring he will be competing with the track team. Last year his best 100m was 11.1. Should be in the tens this spring. College coaches will take notice.
Really believe that Tyler needs the ball in his hands. At his size, not an RB on the college level. Will make an ideal slot receiver. Good hands. Smart. Burst. Gets vertical. Possibly a corner. Need to see that in camps.
Ohio University and Toledo have been in the school. Just the beginning for him. But he needs to get his name out there.
College football camps will be huge for Tyler. Needs the exposure. Needs to get noticed by the decision makers. Needs to make some “Oh my” plays.
Tyler Scott is a three sport athlete. Stays busy, but must get bigger/stronger/faster. Just starting to scratch the surface.
